Beyond the Grid Fund for Africa (BGFA)

Funding background

The BGFA aims to build markets for off-grid energy to bring access to clean, affordable off-grid energy to reach at least 6 million people by 2025 in its focus countries (Burkina Faso, Liberia, Mozambique, Uganda and Zambia).

Eligibility

Private off-grid energy service companies interested in expanding their business in BGFA countries.

Financing

Direct results-based financial support for the private sector to incentivise off-grid energy companies to expand, grow and scale-up access to energy for customers living in rural and peri-urban areas of Sub-Saharan Africa.

Applying

Previous funding rounds 1-4 have been divided into two stages: A Pre-Qualification stage and a Final Application stage. The latest funding round uses a simplified application process with only one stage. Interested off-grid energy companies must register and submit applications using the online intake system.
